Google Is Moving Local Services Ads Into Google Ads. Here Is What That Means for Your Leads.

The Local Services Ads bringing in your calls and booked jobs are about to change homes. Google is retiring the standalone Local Services Ads dashboard and folding the whole product into Google Ads. If Lokal Media House runs your LSAs, consider this your heads-up: here is what is changing, why it matters for your leads, and what we are already doing about it so nothing skips a beat.

Here is the good news up front. The way LSAs actually work is not changing. You still pay per lead, not per click. Your ads still show only on Google Search and Maps. And you still do not manage keywords. What is changing is where it all gets managed, and a few things underneath that quietly raise the stakes on your Google Business Profile. Below is what is happening, why it matters for your lead flow, and exactly what Lokal Media House is doing about it on the accounts we manage.

What Google Is Actually Changing

Starting with a phased rollout in August 2026, eligible advertisers will manage Local Services Ads directly inside Google Ads through a new campaign type: Performance Max for pay-per-lead goals. It is built only for local service businesses, and despite the Performance Max name, it does not spread your budget across YouTube, Display, or Gmail. It keeps the core of what LSAs have always been:

  • Ads still appear only on Google Search and Google Maps.
  • Campaigns stay keywordless and pull from your Google Business Profile.
  • You still pay only for valid leads such as calls, messages, and bookings, not for clicks.

Two things are genuinely new, and both are worth your attention:

  • One dashboard for everything. We will manage your LSA campaigns, leads, and calls inside Google Ads, the same place we already run your Search and Performance Max. No more bouncing between a separate LSA tool and everything else.
  • Real-time Google Business Profile syncing. When your business details or photos change on your Google Business Profile, your campaign updates automatically. Less manual maintenance, but it also means your profile is now driving your paid ads in real time.

Why This Matters for Your Lead Flow

The headline sounds like a simple interface swap, and for most owners it will feel like one. But two details can quietly cost you if nobody is watching the account.

First, your historical LSA data does not come with you. Google has confirmed that your budgets, settings, and creative assets transfer automatically, but past performance reports do not migrate into Google Ads. If you want a record of how your Local Services Ads have performed, someone has to download it before your account moves over. Once the migration happens, that history is gone from the platform.

Second, your Google Business Profile becomes even more important. With real-time syncing, a stale profile, a wrong service area, or a low photo count is not just a local SEO problem anymore. It now feeds directly into the ads you are paying for. A clean, accurate, well-stocked profile has always mattered. Now it is wired straight into your paid lead engine.

What Lokal Media House Is Doing About It

We do not wait for these transitions to land on our clients by surprise. Here is how we are handling the move for the accounts we manage.

  • Exporting your LSA history before the migration. For every client running Local Services Ads, we are pulling and saving historical performance data now, so your reporting record stays intact even though Google will not carry it over.
  • Tightening up Google Business Profiles first. Because your profile now feeds your ads in real time, we are auditing service areas, categories, business details, and photos so what syncs into your campaign is accurate and works in your favor, not against you.
  • Watching for your migration notice. The rollout is phased through 2027, starting with a small group of US advertisers. Google gives advance notice before each account moves. We are tracking those notices per account so nothing shifts without a plan.
  • Keeping lead tracking honest. LSAs are still pay-per-lead, which means lead quality and disputing invalid charges still matter. We keep call tracking and lead review tight so you are paying for real prospects, not junk.
  • Unifying your reporting. Once LSAs live inside Google Ads next to your Search and Performance Max campaigns, we can report on your full paid picture in one place, which makes it easier to see where your best leads actually come from.

The Bottom Line

Google is folding Local Services Ads into Google Ads without changing how the product works for you. You still pay per lead, you still show up on Search and Maps, and your budget still goes toward local intent. The transition itself is low drama if someone is managing it. The risk is losing your reporting history and letting an out-of-date Google Business Profile feed your paid ads. Both are avoidable with a little planning ahead of the rollout.

If you are running Local Services Ads and want to make sure your data is saved and your profile is ready before the migration reaches your account, let’s talk. Lokal Media House manages this kind of change for local service businesses every day, and we would rather get ahead of it than clean it up later.
